Die Stiftung Deutsches Meeresmuseum ist ein national und international bedeutsames naturwissenschaftliches Museum. Zu ihr gehören die Standorte MEERESMUSEUM, OZEANEUM, NATUREUM und NAUTINEUM. Die Schwerpunkte der Ausstellungs-, Sammlungs- und Forschungstätigkeit sind Meeresbiologie, Ozeanografie, Fischerei und Meereskunde. Schauaquarien mit Becken von bis zu 2,6 Millionen Liter Wasser ergänzen die Ausstellungen und zeigen die Lebewelt in den tropischen und nördlichen Meeren. Das Deutsche Meeresmuseum zählt zu den meistbesuchten Museen Deutschlands. Die Modernisierung des Standortes MEERESMUSEUM und dessen Wiedereröffnung im Sommer 2024 ist ein wichtiger Meilenstein für die Stiftung.

Ihre Aufgaben:

  • Aufbau neuer und Pflege bestehender Kooperationen mit Ausstellungs- und Kulturpartnern, Netzwerken, Natur- und Umweltschutzorganisationen, Hochschulen, Instituten, Verbänden etc.
  • Entwicklung, Koordination und Durchführung der Kooperationsmaßnahmen (Werbeleistungen, Onlinekommunikation, Öffentlichkeitsarbeit, Teilnahme an Netzwerktreffen, Erstellung von Kooperationsverträgen)
  • Weiterentwicklung und redaktionelle Betreuung der wissenschaftlichen Webseiten des Deutschen Meeresmuseums auf Deutsch und Englisch (derzeit mit Typo3)
  • Betreuung der Social-Media-Kanäle des Deutschen Meeresmuseums in Bezug auf Kooperationen und wissenschaftliche Themen
  • Erstellung geeigneter Kundenbindungsprodukte wie des monatlichen E-Mail-Newsletters

Für die Besetzung dieser verantwortungsvollen Position erwarten wir von Ihnen:

  • einen Hochschulabschluss (Bachelor) in Kommunikation, Marketing, BWL o.Ä.
  • mehrjährige Berufserfahrung mit Content-Management-Systemen zur Redaktion von Webseiten und mit der Betreuung von gewerblichen Social-Media-Kanälen
  • Affinität für das Thema Meer und die Kommunikation über wissenschaftliche Themen
  • professionelle Umgangsformen und Ausdrucksweise, Zuverlässigkeit, Vertrauenswürdigkeit sowie ein ausgeprägtes Verantwortungsbewusstsein
  • hohe Leistungsbereitschaft, Teamfähigkeit, Eigeninitiative und Flexibilität
  • C1-Zertifikat in Englisch
  • Führerschein Klasse B

Scientist (m/f/d)

The position is available from May 15 2024 and ends on 31 December 2024. The place of employment is Stralsund, Germany.

The research project PAL-CE is funded by the “Bundesamt für Naturschutz“. The main task is to test acoustic porpoise alert systems (PAL) for long-term use to prevent bycatch of harbour porpoises in gillnets. The project aims to answer, if PALs reduce bycatch in the long term and if their effectiveness changes over time. The reaction of harbour porpoises to PALs deployed in gillnets will be tested in the field and a cooperation with fishermen will be built up. The ideal candidate combines knowledge about Harbor porpoises with bio-acoustics and fisheries.

Your tasks include:

  • Data collection and analysis
  • Analysis of Fisheries data derived from OIC.
  • Scientific evaluation of data.
  • Support of project management, administrative tasks, and project finances.
  • Quality control, documentation of results, and reporting.
  • Organization of project and scientific meetings.
  • Representation of the museum with focus on research.
  • Cooperation with national and international organizations.
  • Scientific publication and presentation.

Job requirements:

  • PhD or MSc in ecology, biology, bioinformatics, or related discipline.
  • Experience in modeling.
  • Knowledge in R and/or MATLAB for the analysis of acoustic data.
  • Willingness to participate in research cruises, also on short notice and on weekends.
  • Availability for domestic and international travels.
  • Excellent knowledge of German and very good knowledge of English.
  • Creativity, high degree of independence.
  • Good communication skills within the team and with fisheries’ representatives; ability to work in an interdisciplinary team.

  • Quality control, documentation of results, and reporting.

Job requirements:

  • PhD or MSc in geoinformatics, bioinformatics, physics, biology or related discipline.
  • Experience in ultrasound acoustics.
  • Knowledge in R and/or MATLAB for the analysis of acoustic data.
  • Willingness to participate in research cruises, also on short notice and on weekends.
  • Availability for domestic and international travels.
  • Excellent knowledge of German and very good knowledge of English.
  • Creativity, high degree of independence.
  • Good communication skills within the team and with fisheries’ representatives; ability to work in an interdisciplinary team.

The research project GEOSTOR aims to develop a roadmap for large-scale storage of carbon in sub-seabed geological formations in the German sector of the North Sea. It will quantify geological storage potentials, identify, and investigate possible storage locations, assess environmental risks, develop novel monitoring techniques, study the legal framework and estimate costs for offshore CO2 transport and storage. Environmental risks include effects on the distribution, abundance, and physiology of harbour porpoises by an increased need for seismic exploration as part of the monitoring of potential deposits. The project is funded by the Federal Ministry for the Environment.

Your tasks include:

  • Conduct scientific literature research about anthropogenic sound effects on harbour porpoises.
  • Evaluation of acoustic data.
