Objective of the project is the scientific accompaniment of the implementation strategy for international convention to protect marine mammals, national management plans for marine mammals as far as the establishment of a worldwide representative network of marine protection areas, the preparation of proposals for a strategy for national implementation of protection plans and activities for marine mammals as far as a implementation strategy for national management plans to protect harbour porpoises in the German North and Baltic Sea. In addition, the annual report for ASCOBANS as well as the revision of the ASCOBANS population recovery plan for harbour porpoises in the Baltic Sea ("Jastarnia Plan") will be carried out as part of the project.

 

The results of the project will be available for the Federal Office for Nature Conservation (BfN) for the awareness of its tasks in the business area of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Construction and Reactor Safety (BMUB).
